Hello Again and welcome back to my blog. This is the final post in a series detailing the build of a pair of medicine cabinets in white cypress. In this post I will be fitting the scissor hinges and catch to the cabinet, then finishing the cabinet in shellac and finally installing it in the wall.
I started by setting my mortising gauge to the desired depth that the hinge will fit into the cabinet. This measurement will be accurate for the doors and case.
After scribing my lines I begin carefully paring out the mortise. The mortising gauge (kibiki) continues to remain helpful in this instance, as I pair the mortise I will continue scribing the sides to keep them sharp and accurate.
And the finished cutout. I continued this process on the opposing side of the cabinet and on the doors.

I completed the remaining hinges and then located and installed the catch. The catch mortises were started slightly differently, but completed very similarly.
I completed the case by removing all brass, then shellacking the case in super blonde shellac. The shellac was applied in a wipe-on fashion to keep the effect of the finish very subtle.
